Labor Day Weekend at The Parklands

This Labor Day Weekend is full of fun at The Parklands! Here are a few scheduled events as well as unscheduled, suggested activities that will allow you to get outside and enjoy your extended weekend!

McFarland, USA – Friday, September 4 – Our free Summer Movie Night Series, presented by Papa John’s Pizza, has been a summer hit! More than 500 people have attended each movie night so far, and we hope to see just as many tonight, September 4, for McFarland, USA, showing at 8:00 p.m. on the Egg Lawn in Beckley Creek Park! Those planning to attend will want to bring a flashlight, bug spray and a blanket or lawn chairs. Papa John’s Pizza’s mobile kitchen will be there selling refreshments along with The Comfy Cow! If you haven’t already tried it, check out our Parklands’ signature flavor, The Bee’s Knees. Highview Baptist Church – East Campus will provide free popcorn and kids’ activities. Movie Night Info

Farmer’s Market – Sunday, September 6 – The Beckley Creek Park First & Third Sunday Farmer’s Market continues this Sunday, September 6 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on the Humana Grand Allee Festival Promenade. Our list of vendors has grown throughout the summer, so stop by to purchase local goods and produce from new vendors and your tried and true favorites. Often, we are asked whether or not dogs are allowed at the market. The answer is, Yes! Dogs are welcome throughout The Parklands, we just ask that owners keep their pets on a leash unless they are visiting The Barklands dog park in Beckley Creek Park. Farmer’s Market Info

Pedal the Parklands – Our bicycle rental partner, Pedal the Parklands, will be set up at Creekside in Beckley Creek Park this holiday weekend affording visitors a different view of Parklands trails from atop a Trek bicycle. They also have carriers and towing equipment available for rent, which are great for families with small children. Each bicycle rental includes a lock and helmet. At Your Leisure . . .

Our best feature is easily the preserved greenspace that surrounds our facilities. Celebrate National Wildlife Day, Friday, September 4, by exploring the Black Willow Trail in Beckley Creek Park or the Coppiced Woods Trail in Pope Lick Park. See what kind of wildlife you discover while taking in the natural surroundings. Try to identify the beautiful wildflowers currently blooming in the Humana Grand Allee. Drop a line at the William F. Miles Lakes or hunt for fossils along Floyds Fork. See More Things to Do

The Bidens aristosa a.k.a. Bearded Beggartick, has turned the Humana Grand Allee into a sea of vibrant yellow! Thanks to our Head Gardener Karen Mann for providing the ID.

No matter which day or activity you choose, we hope you are able to come out and enjoy our beautiful grounds, built and maintained thanks to donations from people like you! Learn how you can help support our park now and for future generations be visiting www.theparklands.org/member.
