Adventure, Discovery, and Relaxation Await This Summer at The Parklands

Summer is here, and with it comes new ways to explore the outdoors. With over 4,000 acres of scenic landscapes and more than 80 miles of trails, The Parklands of Floyds Fork offers endless opportunities for adventure, discovery, and relaxation—free and open to all, 365 days a year. Thanks to the generosity of our community, there’s no entrance fee to enjoy this expansive park system.

Whether you’re looking to check out new trails, cool off with the kids, or simply spend time in nature, The Parklands has something for everyone this summer.

For tips on making the most of your visit on sunny summer days—including how to beat the heat and stay sun-smart—check out our May “Fun in the Sun” blog post.

Cool Off and Play

The Parklands features two major playground and sprayground areas—perfect for families seeking a fun and refreshing summer escape close to home.

Marshall Playground and Sprayground‒Beckley Creek Park

Families will find an expansive play space nestled near the PNC Achievement Center. Kids can climb, slide, swing, and explore nature-inspired play structures designed to encourage creativity and movement. Just steps away, the splash pad invites children to run through jets of water and cool off under sprays and fountains—a welcome treat during hot summer days. Make a splash, then break for a snack at the first-come, first-served shaded picnic tables.

Cliffside Playground and Sprayground‒Broad Run Park

Another favorite spot for families, this area has a playground with a climbing net, unique slides, and shaded picnic tables nearby for a relaxing lunch or bite to eat. The adjacent sprayground has plenty of space to run, splash, and laugh—great for burning energy and staying cool on sunny afternoons.

The spraygrounds in Beckley Creek and Broad Run Parks are open daily through September (weather permitting) and are conveniently located near restrooms and picnic areas. These spaces are more than just fun—they’re thoughtfully designed to support active play, social interaction, and quality family time outdoors. They’re great for both full afternoon adventures and quick cool-down visits.

Discover, Learn, and Explore

Summer camps are in full swing and provide hands-on, nature-based learning for kids in grades K–9. Campers spend their days hiking, biking, paddling, and exploring—all while discovering the science behind the world around them. Camps run weekly through August 1, and Members receive discounted pricing.

For young explorers not enrolled in camp, the fun doesn’t stop. Our education team hosts regular events like Wednesday Wonders, which blends play and discovery in outdoor settings. Wee Wednesday Wonders is also offered for younger learners.

Seasonal StoryWalks along the Egg Lawn Signature Trail combine reading and hiking for a family outing filled with wonder. The Summer StoryWalk is coming up soon—don’t miss Jumper by Jessica Lanan when it pops up in Beckley Creek Park this August!

Hit the Trail That’s Right for You

With more than 60 miles of hiking and biking trails—plus 19 continuous miles of the paved, multi-recreational Louisville Loop—there’s always a new route to explore at The Parklands. For mountain biking enthusiasts, the Silo Center Bike Park in Turkey Run Park is open through September, offering flow trails, pump tracks, and a skills loop for all experience levels. Learn more about our trails on our website.

Looking to try something new with others? The Parklands Walking Club meets twice each month for ranger-led hikes, giving visitors a chance to explore lesser-known paths and connect with fellow park-goers. And don’t miss our upcoming Friday at Floyds event this August—an evening of live music, food, and family-friendly fun at Beckley Creek Park. Get details on all Upcoming Events at the parks.
