Volunteer Spotlight: Joel LeGris

This month’s spotlight shines on Joel LeGris, an incredibly dedicated volunteer who has been donating his time and talents to The Parklands for a year and a half. Joel was eager to get involved from the beginning, and attended our first ever volunteer training session in March 2013. He assists with field trips, family programs, and interpretive hikes, as well as other events throughout the park. Joel has a background in conservation and land use planning and management and is a wonderful asset to our interpretive team.

We picked Joel’s brain this month and asked him what it was like to be a Parklands Volunteer:

“As a volunteer and member, every time I come to The Parklands, I always see something new and exciting. Helping the staff with the nature walks and field days is very enjoyable. As a former conservationist, sharing knowledge with the public – who also have enthusiasm and inquisitive spirits when it comes to nature – is a wonderful experience. I now have new friends who even send me images via their phones/email from the park of new plants, animals, and insects they are seeing as the seasons pass. It’s great!”

Keep up the excellent work, Joel – we are so lucky to have you on our volunteer team!
