The Parklands

Volunteer Appreciation

With nearly 4,000 acres of parkland spanning from forests to manicured gardens and everything in between, sometimes we rely on a little help to keep everything in tip-top shape. That’s where our amazing volunteers come in! Our volunteers do everything from weeding garden beds, to staffing the front desk of our visitor center, to lending a hand with our summer camps, and spreading the word about our Membership program. Since April is National Volunteer Month, we thought we’d ask some of our volunteers why they donate their free time to help out at The Parklands. Here’s what they said:

“I love showing my young daughters how to give back by volunteering and helping spread joy within this wonderful park.”  – Ashley Shutts

“The Parklands calls to me, as if the soil & trees were part of my very being. And if we can pass that deep connection to nature along to the next generation, what better legacy…” – Vickie Campbell

The Parklands is my ‘I’m worth it’ place.  My time spent in this beautiful park rejuvenates me and in return, I can give back to this wonderful community by volunteering as a Parklands Ambassador to encourage all to spend time here and make it their ‘I’m worth it’ place.” – Chris Cornelius

“I volunteer because I love the ambience of the Parklands, the magnificent vistas manifested throughout the various Parks, the diversity contrasted in the flora and fauna in the total layout, the multitude of activities available and most especially the nearness to our urban area.” – Don Linton

“I absolutely love the Parklands and had been spreading the word long before I become an Ambassador! We are so lucky to have access to a world-class park, it has something for everyone!” – Cindy Vaughan

“We just get so energized being surrounded by folks enjoying nature.” – Steve and Kathleen Rungwerth

“I think of the Parklands as a gift. When I am there, it gives me joy to help people unwrap it.” – Ken Alderson

To all of our wonderful volunteers: THANK YOU for all you do. We are so lucky to have you as a part of our Parklands family.
