An opening date has been set for the newest amenity at The Parklands of Floyds Fork. The Strand trailhead opens to the public on Friday, March 29. This trailhead provides improved accessibility to a beautiful, nearly 5-mile stretch of the Louisville Loop and Floyds Fork that was once only accessible by foot, bike or boat.
The Strand trailhead features two restrooms, a water fountain, an area for visitors to rest, a parking lot that accommodates 27 vehicles, and interpretive information to help guide and enhance the visitor experience. This new amenity makes for a great pit stop along a run or bike ride through The Parklands. Visitors are encouraged to use the location as a starting point for outdoor adventures exploring areas such as The Palisades, Walnut Grove or Mussel Bend.
“Before the trailhead was constructed, park guests had to walk, cycle or paddle 2-3 miles to access the Strand,” said 21st Century Parks CEO Dan Jones. “Now, areas like our Walnut Grove will be a short walk from parking, giving a broader audience a way to explore one of the most scenic and peaceful sections of The Parklands.”
The Strand connects both Pope Lick Park and Turkey Run Park by way of the paved Louisville Loop pathway. This important connector allows for 19 miles of continuous, fully-accessible pathway through the entire Parklands system. The Strand trailhead is located off Echo Trail at 6510 Echo Trail, Louisville, KY 40299. There, visitors can park and start their journey along the Louisville Loop. Since this is a brand new facility, GPS maps do not have the latest directions. Visitors are encouraged to use the step-by-step directions listed below.
