The Parklands

Staff Spotlight: David Paris

What is your role at The Parklands?

My role is to oversee the maintenance, safety and cleanliness of all Southern Operations. (Broad Run Park, Turkey Run Park and The Strand to Long Bridge)

How does your team keep The Parklands:

Safe – We have ongoing, detailed inspection of all facilities and elements in Turkey Run and Broad Run Parks.

Clean – We make sure we remove all trash, debris and graffiti when needed, throughout the park. Sanitation and cleaning of all restroom facilities, public pavilions and trash bins is important to set us apart and make sure visitors keep coming back.

Fun – Ensuring proper function of all amenities also ensures that our visitors have a fun time out in the park.

Beautiful – Our team maintains a high standard of cleanliness and function of all areas of our parks, which keeps it looking beautiful!

What are you most proud of in your work? – I’m proud that I get to work with some of the greatest, most supportive people I’ve ever met, in the greatest working environment I’ve ever been a part of. They make my job less like work and more like fun.

What inspires you to come to work every day? – I have the greatest office in the world!

Which trail would you recommend to visitors and why? – I love all our trails, but if I had to choose one, it would probably be Karst Climb. It’s a great trail for all ages with beautiful scenery.

What “hidden gem” would you recommend to visitors and why? – I would highly recommend Sky Dome in Turkey Run Park. It’s a beautiful view, peaceful, and a great place to sit and watch nature.

In your opinion, what makes The Parklands worthy of support? – The Parklands is more than just a series of parks…. It’s an experience. I never see the same thing twice when I’m here. It’s always a new adventure, no matter where I go in the parks. Not to mention, we have a great staff, full of passionate people with a common goal and a love for what they do.

How would you say “Thank You” to someone who donates to The Parklands, or who is thinking about donating? – When you choose to donate, you are supporting an effort to make life a little better for a lot of people. You are making the world you live in brighter on a local level. So, thank you. Without you, none of this is possible
