Title: Trail Experience Team Leader

Team: Trail Team

1. What is your role at The Parklands?

Maintain trails to allow the visitor the best experience possible. Our team keeps trails clear of debris, cutting back trees and installing drainage solutions as necessary. While The Parklands is not responsible for maintaining Floyd’s Fork, we have thousands of paddlers each year, so we post signs to help folks navigate. Each spring we Paddle the Fork to ensure mile markers and bridge signs are visible.

2. How does your team keep The Parklands:

  • Clean – We pick up any trash we find throughout the trails and park.
  • Fun – We strive to keep our trails in the best shape to maximize visitor fun.

3. What are you most proud of in your work?

The knowledge that the work we do every day is one of the driving forces behind visitors’ love of our parks.

4. What inspires you to come to work every day?

I really love the idea behind The Parklands, working to set aside a piece of land for the city of Louisville to grow around. Being a part of something this big has rewards every day.

5. Which trail would you recommend to visitors and why?

Karst Climb, one of our newest trails, located in Broad Run Park! This trail offers some awesome views of waterfalls and the lower section of trail has some special places.

6. What “hidden gem” would you recommend to visitors and why?

The area above the Hickory Trail in Turkey Run Park is a pretty awesome spot. It feels remote and the different landscapes are fun to explore.

7. In your opinion, what makes The Parklands worthy of support?

I think The Parklands is worthy of support for a few reasons, the main one being that we try to provide a place for everyone to get outside, regardless of your activity. People enjoy being outside in different places, from high use to low use, The Parklands has you covered. This is something worthy of support.

8. How would you say “Thank You” to someone who donates to The Parklands, or who is thinking about donating?

I would let them know that their money or time is not going to waste. The end result of their donation will be used and enjoyed by millions of visitors.
