No doubt, it’s exciting to see all of the construction in the southern parks.   And it’s more than a little tempting to go past the “CLOSED” signs and gates to see what’s down there.  But, these are active construction sites, not yet parks.  There is no public access permitted – for your safety and for the safety of the construction team hard at work.

With the warming weather, we’ve noticed a significant uptick in individuals who are ignoring the signage and accessing these sites for hikes, walks, ATV use, and general sight-seeing. We don’t blame you for your curiosity, but these southern areas are not yet open to the public for a reason; they are active construction sites and access is strictly limited to individuals involved in the construction activities.  In order to hit our construction deadlines, it is imperative that construction proceeds without the interference or problems that can arise from non-permitted access. Directional and boundary signage is not yet in place, along with other safety checks that are necessary before these areas become open for use by the public.

Additional signage and barriers will be going up in the construction zones to discourage visits by the general public.  If individuals are found to be in the construction sites (including cars parked at the entryways), they may be subject to law enforcement action by Louisville Metro Police and Kentucky Fish & Wildlife Wardens that are empowered to enforce no-trespassing rules at these sites. 

So please, save yourself from possible negative law enforcement action, and save us from spending time and resources to keep you out.  Enjoy our open parks in the north to their fullest – perhaps explore some trails and areas off the beaten path in these areas.  Give our construction sites a break, and before you know it, we’ll welcome you to the grand opening of The Strand, Turkey Run, and Broad Run Parks, when they are complete and ready for public use (late 2015)! Trust us, it’s worth the wait.
