We are still a few weeks from the official start of spring, but with “cabin fever” set in, all are eager to get out and active at the first sign of warmer weather. Bicyclists, runners and walkers have begun to dot the grey and brown landscape with their colorful gear. When the call of The Parklands becomes too much to resist, by all means, GIVE IN! We hope to see you out enjoying the warming temperatures this March, and when you do, please remember to follow park rules to make your visit (and that of your fellow visitors) as safe and fun as possible.

“A reminder for bicyclists and walkers to share the Loop. Walkers stay to the right and keep an eye on your children and pets when walking so not to impede the bikers. Bicyclists to pass on the left and let walkers know your passing. Also, watch your speed. Have had walkers complain about bikes flying past them.” ~ Ranger Tim

An Intern’s Guide to Respecting The Parklands: Episode 3 – Trail Etiquette

“Please, no parking on the grass except in designated areas! Parking on the grass causes a traffic hazard for park patrons, and also causes damage that requires additional maintenance and effects the beauty of the park.” ~ Ranger Jim

“Please stick to paved trails following rain and snow. A little dirt doesn’t hurt, but riding and even hiking on trails that are muddy can cause permanent damage. Take the Loop instead and plan to return on a drier day to enjoy the dirt trails. Our trail team will appreciate it!” ~ Rebecca, Membership Coordinator

“Dogs are welcome in The Parklands. Owners are responsible for sanitary disposal of dog feces and for keeping their pets on leashes. Keeping pets on leashes is important for their safety, our wildlife’s safety, and the safety of other visitors.  It is also the law in Jefferson County.  Off-leash pets can have unintended interactions with other pets, wildlife, and other park visitors who may not be comfortable around animals. So please clean up after your pets, and maintain control of them while enjoying The Parklands.” ~ Ranger David

“We hope you’ll pack a picnic, but please leave the grills at home. Visitors may bring in a gas grill if they book an event at the PWC Pavilion in Beckley Creek Park or Woodland Pavilion in Broad Run Park. Contact our Facilities team to check dates!” ~ Tom, Horticulture Director

About the Author

As Manager of Marketing and Communications, Anna Rosales-Crone manages internal and external communications strategies for The Parklands, as well as marketing to promote facility rentals, educational programming, fundraising and overall park awareness. Anna was hired as Communications Coordinator in May of 2015 to help build awareness of the newly constructed park by managing The Parklands brand, website and social media. Prior to joining The Parklands team, she worked in communications at the American Red Cross for five years where she grew the Louisville Area Chapter’s digital and social media presence while supporting public relations, marketing and special events. She also provided public affairs support and guidance during major disaster operations. Anna is a graduate of the University of Evansville where she met her husband and the second love of her life—traveling.
