These extraordinary times call for extraordinary couples. With COVID-19 impacting everyone’s day-to-day lives, long planned wedding celebrations have also been put on hold this spring and early summer. Our Facility and Events team here at The Parklands has taken on some hard conversations with brides and grooms about postponing and sometimes cancelling weddings.
“Despite all of it, our couples have been just amazing,” says Events Coordinator Alyssa Rosen.
Looking ahead to new, alternate dates and embracing creative wedding ideas still make it possible for future brides and grooms to share these very important moments. As always, our staff is excited to be a part of it!
With capacity limits and safety precautions in place, new trends are emerging. For the remainder of 2020, The Parklands is now offering Micro weddings where couples can opt to include 10-50 people in an intimate ceremony for close family and friends. Brides and grooms interested in these special gatherings can choose from three locations: Gheens Foundation Lodge in Beckley Creek Park, Hockensmith Barn in Turkey Run Park and, our newest offering, the Oak Picnic Grove in Beckley Creek Park.
The Oak Picnic Grove, a lovely picnic spot in the heart of Beckley Creek Park, is now available for Micro weddings.
In addition to providing adequate space for guests, this personalized event helps keep costs down while still giving couples that exceptional park ceremony experience in the months ahead. Weekday weddings are also an alternative couples are choosing. For those having to postpone their date, weekend dates are scarce, and it may be easier to find an opening during the week. Caterers and other vendors may more readily have those weekdays available, too. Weekday weddings are also a great idea for couples looking for a multiday celebration. Hosting the ceremony on a weekday gives lots of possibilities for continuing nuptial festivities all weekend long. Smaller scale weddings are also starting to include a virtual element for guests unable to attend.
