Mussel Bend
The Strand
Walk onto this gravel bar and you’ll likely see shells embedded close to the mouths of tributary streams. Over 20 species of freshwater mussels live in the pools near the riffles of Floyds Fork where the water is well-oxygenated. Since mussels die in polluted waters, a dense population of mussels indicates healthy water, and you can find them everywhere in Mussel Bend, located on the southern end of the Strand. Please remember to practice “leave no trace.”
