Let the Good Times Roll: Biking in The Parklands

With more than 60 miles of hike-bike trails winding through four connected parks, The Parklands is a cyclist’s dream. Whether you prefer the smooth pavement of the Louisville Loop, the rugged challenge of dirt trails, or the adrenaline rush of the Silo Center Bike Park, there’s a route for every rider.

In honor of World Bicycle Day on June 3, we’re sharing a few of our favorite bike-friendly trails, along with tips for riding responsibly and details on how you can get rolling with a free Membership to The Parklands.

Trail Picks for Your Next Ride

Looking for a great place to ride? These are a few of our top trail picks for cyclists, but there’s plenty more to discover—check out our full trail list here.

Sky Meadow Excursion Trail – Turkey Run Park (0.92 miles)
This fully accessible asphalt trail circles the Sky Meadow amenities—Sky Dome, Duck Pond, Boulder Pond, and the Paw Paw Trail—and connects with the Louisville Loop. A perfect ride for families or anyone looking for a scenic loop.

Karst Climb Trail – Broad Run Park (0.91 miles)
Ready for a challenge? The Karst Climb Trail offers steep grades and sweeping views. Cyclists can connect to the Louisville Loop via this natural-surface trail at either end, making it a rewarding workout with great payoff.

Coppiced Woods Trail – Beckley Creek Park (1.87 miles)
Wind through an oak-hickory forest rich in local history. This natural-surface trail, just below the William F. Miles Lakes, offers a shaded, immersive ride and connects seamlessly to the Louisville Loop.

The Louisville Loop

The Louisville Loop

One of the most popular biking trails in The Parklands is the Louisville Loop, a paved trail that connects all four of our parks. The Parklands built and maintains 19 miles of the Louisville Loop—a citywide trail project that aims to link neighborhoods and green spaces across the city. The trail is non-motorized and perfect for cyclists of all levels. Thanks to Scheller’s Fitness and Cycling, you’ll also find five bike repair stations along the Loop at:

  • William F. Miles Trailhead

  • Pope Lick Trailhead

  • Seaton Valley Trailhead

  • Between the Brown-Forman Silo Center and the Bike Park

  • Broad Run Valley Trailhead

Silo Center Bike Park

Silo Center Bike Park

Located in Turkey Run Park, the Silo Center Bike Park is a seasonal amenity designed by the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA). Riders of all levels can test their skills on the Toasted Swine Skills Loop, pump tracks, and natural-surface trails.

Important notes:

  • Bike Park trails are for bikes only—no pedestrians or pets allowed.

  • Always wear a helmet.

  • The bike park closes for winter and wet weather to protect against damage. Check theparklands.org/alerts to make sure it’s open before your next ride. (If there is no active alert, the park is open!)

Trail Etiquette: Ride with Respect

Most bike-accessible trails in The Parklands are shared-use. To keep the experience safe and enjoyable for everyone, follow these simple tips:

  • Always yield to pedestrians.

  • Pass on the left with a friendly “on your left” or ring of a bell.

  • Slow down around others, especially in crowded areas.

  • Ride single-file when needed—especially when passing or encountering oncoming traffic.

  • Only Class I e-bikes (pedal-assist) are allowed, and e-bike riders must be 16 or older.
