Four Connected Parks, Connecting People With Nature

Beckley Creek Park • Pope Lick Park • Turkey Run Park • Broad Run Park

When people visit The Parklands of Floyds Fork, they often experience it one park at a time. They might explore a favorite trail, take in a scenic overlook, or pause at a quiet creek crossing. While these moments can be extraordinary, what truly sets The Parklands apart is something bigger—four distinct parks, intentionally connected by land, water, and purpose.

Together, Beckley Creek, Pope Lick, and Turkey Run, and Broad Run Parks form more than 4,000 acres of protected green space along Floyds Fork. Each park has its own personality and amenities, yet they are unified by a shared goal—to create a world-class park system that connects people to nature and to one another.

Linked Landscapes With Distinct Personalities

Each park has its own character but remains part of a cohesive whole that encourages exploration, movement, and discovery. Stretching across nearly 4,000 acres, The Parklands is a system of parks linked by 22 miles of the Floyds Fork stream, 19 miles of the Louisville Loop, and a scenic park drive. The four major parks are also connected through their names, which all come from the Floyds Fork tributaries that run through them. Beyond this layer, however, the parks’ identities are shaped by the land, their histories, and the experiences they offer visitors.

  • Beckley Creek Park is the most people-centered of the four. Built in a high-population area, it was designed for dense use and active programming. It features the Marshall Playground and Sprayground, picnic areas, community gathering spaces like the Gheens Foundation Lodge and PNC Achievement Center, and signature landscapes like the Egg Lawn and Humana Grand Allee. It’s a hub for camps, events, and everyday park use.
  • Pope Lick Park brings an energetic, athletic feel to the system. Home to soccer fields, cycling routes, and trail connections, it also protects important natural areas like Big Beech Woods and prairie restoration spaces—balancing recreation with conservation.
  • Turkey Run Park offers a quieter, more remote experience where visitors can explore and connect with nature. Long trails wind through forests and open fields, historic farm structures dot the landscape, and wide skies make it an ideal place for hiking and biking. It’s a park designed for both reflection and adventure.
  • Broad Run Park, the southern anchor of the system, blends dramatic natural beauty with carefully designed visitor spaces. Hardwood forests, scenic overlooks, and world-class gardens coexist with gathering areas like the Cliffside Center and The Greensward, creating a park that feels both wild and welcoming.

The Strand: Not A Major Park, But Plays a Major Role

Nestled between Pope Lick Park and Turkey Run Park is The Strand, the central puzzle piece of The Parklands. This long, narrow stretch of land hugs Floyds Fork and connects the northern and southern parks, creating an unbroken chain of parklands. The area is more than just a connector, though. It has become beloved in its own right, thanks to its well-used bridges, serene landscapes, and special places like the Walnut Grove and Mussel Bend.

The Strand’s role is simple but powerful. It provides continuous movement through the park system while offering moments of beauty and pause along the way.

One Vision and One World-Class Experience

The Parklands operates with one guiding vision—to preserve the natural landscape while creating meaningful opportunities for education, recreation, and connection. From habitat restoration and stewardship to outdoor learning and community programming, every effort supports the long-term health of the parks and the people who enjoy them.

What makes The Parklands special isn’t just the size of the land. Its real magic lies in how intentionally all the pieces fit together. The parks are distinct but compatible, connected but not repetitive. You might start your day on a playground, ride your bike through rolling countryside, hike a quiet forest trail, and end with a scenic overlook—all within one park system.

That’s the heart of The Parklands’ intentional design. Each area has its own personality, yet all are united by shared landscapes and pathways, creating an experience that unfolds the more you explore it.
