Join the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources to learn the basics of fishing, including knot tying, fish ID, rod and reel set up, and fish cleaning.
This three-part course will teach you the basics of catching and cleaning fish. Whether you are an experienced angler or a first-time fisherman, this course will teach you the skills and knowledge you need to get started in fishing. The anticipated course itinerary is below.
Day 1 May 6th, 5:30pm-8:30pm, PNC Achievement Center
The classroom portion covers basic concepts including fish identification, fish habitat, basic equipment, conservation, licensing/regulations, knot tying, both artificial and live bait selection and where to fish.
Day 2 May 13th, 5:30pm-8:30pm, PNC Achievement Center
The cooking portion includes, but is not limited to: how to filet fish, food preparation and cooking, proper meat storage and food sampling.
Day 3 May 20th 5:30pm-8:30pm, PNC Achievement Center
The field portion of the class includes fishing at Beckley Creek Park, all equipment and bait will be provided.
