Earth Day Fest!

Broad Run Park

Back for the second year, celebrate Earth Day with us on April 18th from 5pm-9pm with live music, food, beer, trivia, community partner booths, vendors, and more!

Earth Day is celebrated every year on April 22nd, to raise awareness and support for environmental protection. This year, The Parklands is getting the party started early with Earth Day Fest on Friday, April 18th, and a creek sweep on Saturday, April 19th. Earth Day Fest will be held at the Ogle Foundation Woodland Pavilion, the Moss Gibbs Woodland Garden, and the Greensward area of Broad Run Park. Please check back for a full list of scheduled activities and participating vendors!

Schedule of events:

All night: Vendor booths, food trucks, beer vendors, field games, and community partner tables will be set up to browse throughout the event.

5:00: Free Tree Giveaway – Receive a free tree while supplies last! Trees are being donated by the Louisville Metro Office of Urban Forestry. Since the funds for the donated trees come from Jefferson County taxpayers, the Office of Urban Forestry asks that the trees be distributed to people who reside in Jefferson County. Please be prepared to show a valid driver’s license with an address listed within the county.

* List of Trees in the Giveaway include: Burr Oak, American Hornbeam, Blackgum, Serviceberry, and Spicebush. All trees are in three-gallon containers and will be given on a first come, first serve basis. Only one tree will be given out to each Jefferson County resident.

5:00 – 7:00: Woodland Garden Music Walk – Enjoy a self-guided hike through the Moss Gibbs Woodland Garden. Various acoustic musicians and ephemeral art installations will be stationed throughout the garden. Artists include Emily Ravenscroft (Violin), TJ Cole (Synthesizer), Dane Waters (Folk). *Please note that, while dogs are welcome at Earth Day Fest, they will not be allowed in the Woodland Garden—sorry for any inconvenience this may cause!

*FREE PLANT GIVEAWAY – Find your way to The Woodland Garden to get a free plant (while supplies last). This year, our plant giveaway is Pycnanthemum muticum, also known as Clustered Mountain Mint. It is a favorite with our Parklands Horticulture staff and was also named The 2025 Perennial Plant Of The Year® by The Perennial Plant Association.

6:30 – 7:00: Parklands Trivia Round – A short round of Earth Day-related trivia will be played under the Woodland Pavilion, and the winner will get to choose a prize! To participate, please pick up a trivia paper at The Parklands Welcome Table, located between the parking lot and The Woodland Pavilion, and join us under the Woodland Pavilion to hear the questions.

7:00-9:00: Live Music and Trivia in the Woodland Pavilion – Live music by Quiet Confidence will be playing under the Woodland Pavilion, so bring a chair to enjoy the band from the lawn! During breaks in the music, short rounds of nature trivia will be played, hosted by The Parklands. To participate, get a trivia paper from The Parklands table and, when it comes time to play, write down your answers and turn them in to the trivia host. Trivia rounds will last approximately 30 minutes, and prizes will be awarded after each round!

8:30-9:00: Parklands Trivia Round – Another short round of Earth Day-related trivia will be played under the Woodland Pavilion, and the winner will get to choose a prize! To participate, please pick up a trivia paper at The Parklands Welcome Table, located between the parking lot and The Woodland Pavilion, and join us under the Woodland Pavilion to hear the questions.
